These cufflinks are adaptations from English cufflinks, circa 1790, which were historically worn by George Washington. The original cufflinks are on display in the Washington Style Gallery of The Donald W. Reynolds Museum and Education Center at Mount Vernon.
These handsome modernadaptationshave a 22kt gold plate over copper metal and feature the same navy and white enamelcolor palette of the originals. The faces of the oval cufflinks measure approximately ½” x ¾” and are finished in French (or vitreous) enamel that is hand applied over the copper and fired in a kiln to set the colors.Each piece may be fired up to 10 times in the kiln resulting in an elegant but durable finish.
